We've kept our promise. To date, 3PAR's Carbon Neutral Storage Initiative has funded the purchase of more than 5,600 metric tons of CO2 emission offsets. Between these offsets and the disk capacity savings from green storage technologies like 3PAR Thin Provisioning, we estimate that 3PAR customers have achieved a total CO2 emissions reduction of nearly 14,200 metric tons since the program began in 2007—the equivalent of removing more than 2,685 cars from the road for an entire year!

 

3PAR Carbon Neutral Storage Program

3PAR is committed to reducing both the energy and environmental impact of storage in the datacenter. To demonstrate this commitment, at the start of 2008 we extended our Carbon Neutral Storage Initiative. This program funds the purchase of offsets equivalent to one metric ton of CO2 for each terabyte of 3PAR Utility Storage sold with 3PAR Thin Provisioning. The outcome is effectively 100% carbon neutral storage.

3PAR Thin Provisioning eases the burden of provisioning and enables customers to spend less on capacity. But another critical benefit is its energy savings. Thin Provisioning actually gives you the ability to support your storage needs with fewer disk drives—up to 75% fewer. With Thin Provisioning, 3PAR customers cut energy consumption and the production of greenhouse gasses while saving on capacity and energy costs.

Offsets funded by the Carbon Neutral Storage Initiative take these benefits on step further. At the end of each quarter 3PAR purchases carbon offsets for all Thin Provisioning capacity purchased. Qualifying customers are presented with a Certificate in recognition of carbon offsets purchased on their behalf.
